The faceoff between the Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities will end soon as the Government and the striking lecturers and staffs blame each other for the continuous university strike that just passed that lasted for over 6 months or more.
The chairman of Lagos state university, Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi tells BBC pidgin that their resumption is the hand of the government. He further said that the body has informed the government of what the need to do and what the university need and school will not resume until the government takes the necessary action.
Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi added that it is the government that will decide if they should open universities or they remain closed and stay at home as they wish.
His reaction to the suspension of the ASUU strike, the chairman said the Academic Staff Union is different from all other labour unions and stated that the ASUU principles are the job of high level and that they will not accept or allow the government use them anyhow as they always do to other unions, that it will not work.
The speaker for the Federal Ministry of Education however said the ASUU is basically the cause of the issue because they don't want to register for the integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS). He further said that school resumption is in the hand of the ASUU and not the government delaying it.
