Coronavirus latest: 400 put under surveillance


At least 400 people were early hours of Monday put under surveillance in Indian-controlled Kashmir after a suspected case of COVID-19 was detected, officials said.
The 400 people were put under surveillance in Jammu, the winter capital city of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
“All contacts of one suspected case being tested and quarantined,” Rohit Kansal, a government spokesman said.
The authorities have closed social welfare centres for children in the affected areas until March 31. The local government has also closed primary schools in several districts in wake of the suspected case.
According to officials, COVID-19 testing laboratory will be made functional in the region from Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 400 people have been quarantined in India’s northeastern state of Assam after they came in contact with an American tourist who tested positive in neighbouring Bhutan for the virus.
One more person tested positive for COVID-19 in India on Sunday, taking the total to 40 in the country.
Health authorities across India are urging people to take precautionary measures for the COVID-19 and have urged people to avoid mass gatherings.
